22 December 2010

Associate Director Andreas Alexiou appreared as a keynote speaker at this year’s Prison Planning, Design and Development Conference, providing critical insight into the factors which impact on the success of prisoner rehabilitation.

The key industry event took place between 7th and 9th December 2010 at Kingsway Hall Hotel, London with the aim of giving professional staff working within the custodial industry the knowledge to move the industry forward.

Andreas spoke on the opening day as part of a session aimed at discussing how to ‘Design a Prison that Promotes Prisoner Rehabilitation.’

He explored the topic of ‘Environment vs. Regime - which has most impact on the success of rehabilitation’; providing insight into why environmental design has come to the forefront of innovative architecture.

He also looked at whether the physical environmental design of a prison facility can really challenge the current system of rehabilitation, exhibited by custodial officials to be the most effective methods.

Andreas, whose discipline is architecture, is the Associate Director for the Law and Order sector at TPS. For 25 years he has been involved in the design of prison facilities both in the UK and abroad and has worked directly with the Ministry of Justice. He has also collaborated with private prison operators in England and Wales, leading to a well-informed appreciation of the challenges that face today’s prisons.
