A very warm welcome to Steve Reekie who joined TPS as Finance Director during November. Steve is a very familiar face here, having undertaken various senior financial roles within the wider Carillion business over the past fourteen years.
He has taken over the FD helm from John Pell who, after many years with the company stretching back to PSA days, is taking a more leisurely back seat in anticipation of retirement.
Another successful runway extension

The £10m, 124m extension to the northern end of Aberdeen Airport’s main runway was officially opened in early October, well ahead of schedule. Construction work started in March and was expected to finish next summer, but was completed almost eight months early. TPS’s Aviation team have developed, and are unique providers of, a specialist pavement design for BAA which allowed the work to be undertaken with no impact on airfield operations. Nick Pell and Richard Moore also provided some project management, acting as an interface to bring the stakeholders together including Aberdeen Airport, the National Air Traffic Services, Airfield Operations, airlines operating from the airport and BAA’s Pavement and Infrastructure Team.
ASPIRE wins two
British Safety Council Awards

The £1.4 billion Aspire Defence Capital Works (ADCW) project, for which Schal are providing CDM Co-ordinator services, has been awarded two globally prestigious accolades: the Sword of Honour (in Health and Safety) and the Globe of Honour (in Environment) by the British Safety Council. A well deserved reward for the ADCW design and construction team’s commitment to safety, health and the environment over the last five years.
ADCW is part of the £10 billion Allenby/Connaught project (a Carillion / KBR JV), the largest infrastructure PFI ever let by the MoD.
David McCann heads up Muscat Team

Civil and structural engineer David McCann has been appointed as Regional Director for TPS in Oman. His role will involve developing the local business and building on the success of the team currently involved in the Muscat Airport buildings, working with Carillion Alawi.
Stirling Prize 2011

We are delighted to hear that the Evelyn Grace Academy in Brixton, designed by Zaha Hadid, has won this year's RIBA Stirling Prize. The new building scored a "Very Good" rating in the BREEAM assessment performed by our Sustainability team, and our Security team provided physical and electronic security design for the academy.
Coffee, cakes and raising cash 2011

Once again the TPS offices in Croydon, Birmingham and Edinburgh have enjoyed coffee and cake and by taking part in Macmillan Cancer Relief's "Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning" on September 30th. Additionally, some members of the Edinburgh office, together with one interloper from Croydon, took part in the BUPA 10k fun run around the city on 2nd October, further swelling the coffers. In all we raised £872.91 for Macmillans.
A huge thank you to all those who contributed, particularly local caterers Simply Lunch who sponsored the Croydon event by donating the delicious consumables!
National Rail Awards 2011

The North London Railway Infrastructure Project has been named "Project of the Year" at this year's National Rail Awards held in London on 15th September. TPS are providing land surveying services for TfL's project team which includes Network Rail, Carillion and Atkins.
Hazel Barnard

We have been greatly saddened to learn of the death of Hazel Barnard after a long illness. Hazel was a much loved member of our reception and switchboard team in Croydon, providing a warm and cheery welcome for callers and visitors for over thirteen years until her retirement in March this year. A good friend to all, she is greatly missed by everyone at TPS and we offer our deepest sympathies to her family and friends.

Designing for Counter Terrorism Conference, London 6th October 2011

TPS are a supporting partner for the ‘Designing for Counter-Terrorism’ conference which will be held in London on 6th October. Driven by the Home Office and in partnership with the RIBA, the conference will bring together government ministries and agencies, occupiers and built environment professionals to discover how new policy will affect their treatment of security and resilience.
Mark Whyte and Colin Morison from the TPS Security and Explosion Effects team will be delivering a presentation entitled "Technologies of resilience: Materials and structural design".
Dermot O'Reilly appointed TPS/Schal Regional Director, Canada

Dermot O'Reilly has been appointed as our Regional Director Canada. Apart from taking the TPS and Schal banner to Canada, his new role will also support Carillion Canada and identify opportunities for us in this expanding market for Carillion.

TPS has started work on a new development at Muscat International Airport, Sultanate of Oman, which will include an iconic air traffic control tower, an air transport management complex, a contingency and training centre, plus fire and sea rescue facilities.

TPS achieves Carillion Gold "Target Zero" Award

TPS is delighted to have been awarded a Carillion Gold "Target Zero" safety award for achieving 2 million working hours without a reportable accident. John McDonough, Carillion's Chief Executive, said "It takes a special contribution from everybody in the team to achieve a record such as this which is truly a demonstration of "Target Zero in practice".
