Dan
Graduate Civil Engineer
After graduating from The University of Nottingham in 2007 with a masters degree in Civil Engineering, Daniel joined TPS as a graduate engineer in the infrastructure department.
While at university Daniel was sponsored by Carillion and completed summer placements in their Rail and National Building businesses. “This has given me great practical experience which I can now use in design at TPS. I can visualise how things will be built and this gives me a better idea of the challenges a scheme will face, which therefore translates to a better design”.
“Since joining TPS I have worked on drainage design for Whittington MMA project and am currently working on highway improvement schemes for the Surrey Highways Partnership” says Daniel.
“My typical day is spent reading the client brief, identifying and applying appropriate technical standards to the design, marking up drawings for CAD technicians to draw up, checking my notes from a site visit I will have previously made to a site and writing project documents including the project specification.”
“Then, as I am working towards my chartership, I will often go to the Institution of Civil Engineers in the evening for either a committee meeting for the London Graduate and Students Committee or maybe one of the talks the ICE puts on.”
Daniel holds the position of Newsletter Editor on the London G & S Committee and also shares the role of Publicity and Design with a fellow TPS graduate engineer on the Centenary Sub Committee, a specially formed committee to celebrate 100 years of the London G & S Committee.
“Its really good networking and team building because quite a few of the 2007 graduates go to the ICE together for talks and committee meetings and this will help us all to progress towards chartership.”
