Henk
Electrical Engineer
After graduating with a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pretoria in South Africa in 1992, Henk trained as an engineer for a large transport providing company. In 1997 Henk joined a large South African design company and after nine years in consulting he decided to move to the UK and joined TPS in 2006.
“I decided to come to the UK to gain experience in first world engineering. Over the last nine years of consulting work in Africa I have been involved with various exciting projects but those in the aviation industry have always fascinated me. When I was offered the opportunity by TPS to focus my career on aviation, I grabbed the opportunity with both hands”.
“I have now been in the UK for almost a year and I have already been involved with various Civil and Ministry of Defence Airport projects. Because the weather conditions are so different and the air traffic much higher, the airports need much more sophisticated systems than in Africa. Most of the airports in the UK are higher category airports (CAT III) which makes it exciting and challenging”.
Henk is registered as a professional engineer in South Africa and is currently working to register as a chartered engineer in the UK. “I have found the work environments in consulting engineering in South Africa and the UK are in some areas very different but in other aspects very familiar. Up to now it has been easy to adapt to the local environment with the support of my colleagues here at TPS.”
