Spencer

Project Manager

After graduating from Kingston University in 1999, Spencer worked as a structural engineer; after deciding to change career and become a project manager, he joined TPS’s project management company Schal in 2006.

“The experience and depth of knowledge of my colleagues at Schal is second to none" says Spencer; "the pool of information they offer is accessible at any time, which I find hugely beneficial to my development, and the high level of training available is enabling my project management career to flourish. My current project at Cranfield University is really five projects rolled into one. The total construction cost is £38m and involves various procurement routes, which has allowed me to gain considerable experience in a short time that would normally be acquired on various projects across several years.”

Spencer finds that being part of the Carillion Group offers major advantages such as access to the Carillion Supply Chain. “This greatly assisted my project recently when a local asbestos removal contractor was unable to deal with requirements quickly enough. A few calls to our Supply Chain contractors resulted in people arriving on site within a couple of days, ready and willing to help” he explains.

The strong emphasis on training and personal development was just one of the important factors that influenced Spencer in choosing to pursue his career in project management with TPS and he says “I would recommend anyone looking for a career in PM to take a good look at the quality of the projects that we undertake!”
